JOHANNESSON, Johanna (nee Grimolfson) - Born October 7, 1922, died on April 8, 2018, at the age of 95, at the Arborg Hospital in Arborg, Manitoba. She was born on Hecla Island, Manitoba, the youngest daughter, and second youngest child of11 children. She married Rognvaldur (Reggie) Johannesson on July 21, 1942 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

After their third child was born they moved to Reggie's hometown of Wynyard, Saskatchewan, where she remained until moving in 1998 back to Hecla Island, Manitoba with her youngest daughter and three grandchildren. She remained there until she moved to the Arborg Personal Care Home in August 2016. Johanna worked at Crawford's, (the chicken plant) in Wynyard, Saskatchewan for many years before she retired at 63 in 1985.

She was a beloved mother, Amma, and Lang Amma (aka Little Amma, Amma Amma, and Amma Gumma). She liked to go to dances, curl, play cards, read Danielle Steel romance novels, drink her coffee with whipping cream, work hard and mostly take care of other people. She made the best homemade bread, rullupylsa, and vinarterta (sorry everyone else).

She will be remembered as a loving, devoted person, a giving tree to her whole family. She is survived by her two youngest daughters, Debra Gail Johannesson and Jo-Anne Beverly Johannesson (Franklin Gudbjartson), her daughters-in-law, Iris Duff and Verna Wood, her grandchildren Randy (Karen) Johannesson, Richard (Darlene) Johannesson, Ronald (Julie) Johannesson, Sheri (Barry) Braumberger, Twyla Weber, Torin (Teri Armitage) Stefanson, Kimberly (Brian) Burgardt, Erin (Ryan) Stasiuk, Cory (Roxanne) Johannesson, Krista (Ryan) Neubauer, Alex (Kristina) Johannesson, Katrina (Travis) Lewis, Vanessa (Mathew) Roberts, Jeremy Wood, Ashley Weber, Dustin (Kristen Choquette) Weber, Tanya (Jeff) Keller, Michelle (Jason) Symynyshen, and Barry Johannesson. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, April (Brandon Hubbell) Johannesson, Elesha (Chauncey) Kaczmar, Darren (Renae Popowich) Johannesson, Jacqueline Johannesson, Jason Johannesson, Sophia Johannesson, Signe Johannesson, Jacob Braumberger, Jarred Braumberger, Jenna Braumberger, Rian Yeo, Fynn Stasiuk, Lennon Stasiuk, Avery Johannesson, Nate Neubauer, Abbey Neubauer, Devon Johannesson, Lawson Johannesson, Grayer Johannesson, Mason Lewis, Ivy Roberts Joshua Cubbins, Dakota Smith, Logan Weber, Cadence Weber, Lilja Keller, Grace Keller, Charlotte Keller, Tamara Symynyshen, and Jayden Symynyshen.

She was also survived by her six great-great grandsons, Kobe, Tyler, Carter, Jaxon, Ryker and Dean. She also is leaving behind numerous surviving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and even great-great-great nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, too many children, Esther Johannesson, Rodney Johannesson, Charlotte Susan (Sue) Johannesson, Barry Johannesson, and most recently Donald Johannesson.

She was also pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law, Marilee (nee Goodman) Johannesson and granddaughter Cindy Johannesson Haugan, her parents Johannes and Gudrun (nee Kristjansdottir) Grimolfson, and ten siblings, Steinnun (Valdi) Gudjonson, Solveig Grimolfson, Kristjana (Jon) Kjartanson, Lilja “Lily” (Mundi) Jonasson, Sigurbjorg “Bogga” (Einar) Solmundson, Grimsi (Dolly) Grimolfson, Skapti (Ruby) Grimolfson, Olafur “Oli” (Gertie) Grimolfson, Kristjan (Johanna) Grimolfson, & Asmundur “Aussi” (Ola) Grimolfson. There will be two funeral services. The one on Hecla Island, Manitoba will be on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hecla Village Church officiated by John & Maxine Ingalls with a lunch afterwards at the Hecla Village Hall.

The one in Wynyard, Saskatchewan, will be announced soon. Her burial will be next to her husband in the Wynyard cemetery. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Arborg Personal Care Home for their attention and loving care.
