She was predeceased by : her parents, Hekkie Spies and Elize Spies; and her half-sister Merle Spies. She is survived by : her significant other Portugal; her children, Merle Gie (Francois) of Baldur, MB, Phoebe Barton (Stuart) of Simpsonville, Pieter Du Toit (Elena) of Barcelona, Spain and Hendrik Du Toit of Vancouver, BC; her grandchildren, Annelouise, Alexander, Jonathan, Graham, Adam and Juliette; her siblings, Annemarie Fourie of South Africa and Heinrich Spies of South Africa; and the father of her children Daniel Du Toit of Paisley, ON. She is also survived by relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the RM of Argyle, Box 40, Baldur, MB, R0K 0B0 noted to benefit the Argyle Museum or to a charity of choice.
