Allan Bruce McDonald Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Allan Bruce McDonald (Winnipeg, Manitoba), who passed away on October 23, 2025, at the age of 69, leaving to mourn family and friends. Allan was predeceased by his parents, William and Ada McDonald, and followed by the passing of his partner, Donna Sherry Pinchuk. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Ariel (Miguel) and Devon; grandchildren Natalia, Luka, and Anika; sister Marilyn; niece's Natasha (Ryan) Pedersen and Amber Murray; great-nephews Chase, Graham, and Jasper Murray; great-niece Charlie-Hannah Pedersen; cousin Sam; Richard Dilay and many other friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to William and Ada McDonald, Allan was a man of wide-ranging curiosity and intellectual depth. He cultivated a lifelong passion for golf and soccer, and he had an enduring appreciation for strategic board games and classic cinema. His interests also extended to rock music and the careful study of history, science, and psychology. An avid and discerning reader, Allan took great care to remain engaged with contemporary scholarship and emerging ideas.
Allan graduated from the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Social Work in 1982. He went on to build a meaningful and dedicated career serving others, working as a caseworker in child and family services and later as an employee counselor with the Public Service of Canada. His professional life reflected his compassion, intelligence, and steady commitment to supporting individuals and families through difficult times.
In 1989, Allan married Barbara Baryluk, and together they welcomed two children, Ariel and Devon, whom he loved deeply and spoke of with pride. Known to many simply as “Al,” he was well-read and engaging—an insightful conversationalist with a sharp wit and a gently skeptical, independent spirit. He valued thoughtful dialogue, lifelong learning, and authentic connection.
Since 2011, Allan lived with his partner, Sherry. They enjoyed riding horses and spending time with their pets. More recently, he resided at the Misericordia Health Centre. The McDonald family wishes to thank his caregivers!
