He was predeceased by: his son David Eric Carlson; and his parents, Erik and Lily Elizabeth Hammerback. He is survived by: his brother Bruce; his wife Joyce; his children, Karen (Preston), Andrea, Dillan, Joel (Austin), Ian and Jessica (Tabitha, family: Bruce, Carole Carlson); and his nieces and nephews, Sean, Shelley, Anders and Linea. He is also survived by his brother and their family.
A reception was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the St. Margaret's Anglican Church (160 Ethelbert St, Winnipeg, MB R3G1V7). During covid he joined an online viola masterclass facilitated by the staff at Misericordia Place and many others were heard exclaiming "is that Len Carlson?" as he was well known in Winnipeg's music community.
