Leonie Sabina Vaz Obituary

Peacefully on December 4, 2021 Leonie passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 87 years. Leonie is survived by her children Colin, Patricia and Marietta. Leonie was a devoted wife to her husband Richard (who passed away in 2018) and she was a loving mother to her three children. Before Leonie met Richard her profession was that of a school teacher; she was very smart and a very good teacher.

I was able to pass algebra in high school because of my Mama. The kids she taught loved her! When Leonie met Richard and settled down to have kids, she became a full time stay at home mom only returning periodically as a substitute teacher. I was never quite sure if it was because we grew up in Quebec that we called our Mother Mama but that's what we always called her even as adults.

Very self-sacrificing, nothing brought Leonie more joy than helping her children. She would be there when we were sick to help nurse us back to health, be there to listen to our problems, kiss our booboos better. "Mama I need your help" "Thanks for feeding me Mama" Leonie was an excellent cook. My Dad never bragged about much but he was very proud of his wife Leonie's culinary skills.

Leonie loved preparing meals for her family and took delight in the compliments she would receive. In her childhood, Leonie grew up with 4 dogs, so animals took a liking to her kind gentle nature and the treat she had hidden in her hand to give them if they behaved. Our pets always loved our Mama and had no problem jumping in her lap for hugs even if not invited.

After 54 years of loving marriage, Leonie lost her beloved husband Richard in 2018 and now she will get to reunite with him with Jesus, Mary and all the angels and saints in Heaven. "We'll miss you Mama!".
