Thelma Kurz Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Thelma Kurz (née Armstrong) on November 7, 2025, at Meadowood Manor in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was 95.
Thelma was predeceased by her beloved husband Red Kurz, her son Eric, her parents Beatrice and Eric Armstrong, and brothers Peter, Raymond and Donald. Thelma leaves to mourn her daughters Linda (Peter) and Tracy (Chaz). Her memory lives on through her grandchildren Chris, Lisa, Mason, Ella, and Lucas; and great-grandchildren Kelly, Aiden, Sophia, and Lindley.
Thelma grew up in London during WWII, an avid tennis player with a love of theatre and art. She even appeared as an extra in the 1945 film "Caesar and Cleopatra" alongside her youngest brother Raymond. She met her husband Red in 1948 when he came to England to play professional hockey for the Wembley Monarchs. In 1960, Thelma moved with Red to Winnipeg. Thelma devoted her life to raising her family and enjoyed spending time at Brereton Lake, Morden's Meadows and travelling, including spending two years back in England and three years in BC. Thelma was a dedicated volunteer at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church and spent many years serving in the libraries at Holy Cross and Balmoral Hall School. Thelma cherished her role as nan, sharing kindness, encouragement, and her love of tea and Jeopardy with each of her grandchildren.
A family ceremony will be held in the summer to allow people to celebrate Thelma's long life. The family would like to thank the medical staff at Meadowood Manor for their kind and caring attention over the past several years.
Condolences from family and friends.
