He was predeceased by: his parent William Campbell; and his brother-in-law George Walton. He is survived by: his parent Peggy Campbell (Rooney); his wife Joanne; his children, Carrie Campbell (Alvin Sonier) of Saint John, NB and Joel Campbell of Upham, NB; his siblings, Billy Campbell (Linda), Terry Keith (Chuck), Debbie Campbell, Lois Walton, Pam Hunter (Ross) and Maxine LeBlanc (Donnie); and his sister-in-law Judy Price. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donations in memory of Derek, may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Kidney Foundation or to the memorial of the donor's choice.
