She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Norman Madsen and Edith Madsen (Kirke); her husband Donald Messer; her significant other Preston Graham; her daughters, Amy Messer (Devin) and Katie Messer; her grandchildren, Eric, Brody, Kaylie, James, Alex, Charlotte and Danny; her pet Buddy; her siblings, Judy Grandy (Ken), Jim Madsen (Susan) and David "Skippy" Madsen (Christine); and her nieces and nephews, Greg, Norm, Becky and Meaghan. She was also cherished by several extended family members and close friends.

Donations in Janie's memory would be greatly appreciated to Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice House Fredericton.
