He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Richards and Nora Richards (Rossborough); his wife Mona S. Richards (Furlought); and his sons, Robert Todd Richards, John William Richards Jr. and Wesley Gerald Richards.

He is survived by: his daughter Laura Richards; his grandson Kyle Richards; and his siblings, Robert Richards (Buck) and Judith Heizen.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Fredericton Hospice or the Canadian Foundation for the Blind.
