He was predeceased by : his son Mark Layton; his parents, Horace McClare and Alice McClare (Lyon); and his brothers, Donald, Walter, Edwin McClare, John Avery McClare and Charles Gordon McClare.

He is survived by : his wife Doreen McClare (Davis); his son Mike McClare (Michele) of Scotch Settlement, NB; his grandchildren, Gavin and Ryan McClare of Fredericton, NB; his sisters, Pauline Goldsmith and Edith Paul (Bud) of Dartmouth, NS; and his siblings-in-law, Francis Combes, Elisabeth Ainsworth (John) and George Davis (Kathy). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Layton's memory can be made to Hospice Fredericton or the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation.
