He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Francis and Ethel Viola Nearing (Merrill); his son Michael M. Nearing (Diane); and his siblings, Charles Nearing (Anna) and Dorothy N. Miller (Sterling).

He is survived by: his wife Agnes Nearing (Boyle); his children, Marilyn Holt of Florida, Patrick Nearing of Ontario, Keith Nearing (Linda), Mark Nearing (Sana) of Nerepis, NB, Carolin Nearing of Grand Bay and Westfield; his grandchildren, Chuck Nearing, Jeff Nearing, Chris Nearing, Kevin Holt, Ryan Dryhurst, Stephanie Hennig, Amanda Nearing, Emily Nearing and Nathan Nearing; and his sister-in-law Glennis Boyce (Lee). He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
