He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Henry Ruth and Millicent McKinnon Ruth; his daughters, Eleanor Marie Ruth and Angel Ruth Cartwright; his brothers, Robert Ruth of Maryland and Michael Ruth of Maine; his siblings-in-law, Jim Branford of Wetaskiwin, Robert Tompkins of Jacksonville and Carolyn Tompkins of Jacksonville; and his parents-in-law, Bernice and Hughie Tompkins.

He is survived by: his spouse Gail; his son Herbert "Jay" Ruth (Brenda) of Florida; his brothers, Jim and David; and his sisters-in-law, Paulette Barriner (William) of Jacksonville, NB and Janet Bradford of Wetaskewin, Alberta.. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
