He was predeceased by: his parents, Alton Oakes and Kathleen Oakes (Acton); his son David Oakes; and his stepsiblings, Letha Grant, Elva Dixon, Signa Christensen, Nora Oakes, Ralph Oakes, Altie Oakes, Phillip Oakes and Glen Oakes.

He is survived by: his wife Grace Oakes (Boxwell); his daughters, Diana Oakes-Marenger (Michel) of Glassville, NB and Cathy Ferris (Jeff) of St. Stephen, NB; his grandchildren, Cal LaKing (Stephanie), Corwyn LaKing (Erica), Jenny Sutherland and Damian Oakes; his great grandchildren, JC Gommer, Elianna LaKing, Everly LaKing and Ayla LaKing; and his stepbrother Vernie Oakes (Connecticut) of Bristol. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
