He was predeceased by: his parents, John MacFarlane and Catherine MacFarlane (Gilliss); his siblings, Margaret, Gordon, John, Fred, Donald and Robert; and his brothers-in-law, Stephen and Mark Clark.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Ann MacFarlane (O'Donnell); his sons, Stephen MacFarlane of Edmonton and Scott MacFarlane (Karly) of Miramichi; his grandchildren, Morgan, Colton and Spencer; his brothers-in-law, Wayne Clark (Becky), Peter Clark (Susan) and Alvin Clark (Karen); and his nieces and nephews, Gordon MacFarlane (Tammy), Kim Cosgrove (Greg), Debbie Chezenko (Ron) and Sherry Naylor (Stuart). He is also survived by cousins and many friends.
