He was predeceased by: his parent Lawrence Smith. He is survived by: his parent Clythie Smith (McGrath); his sons, Tim Smith and Jeff Smith; and his sisters, Judy Currie, Jean Ivany and Linda Smith. He is also survived by three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Carl's memory may be made to Diabetes Canada.
