She was predeceased by: her parents, Jens Petersen and Gudrun Petersen Carlsen. She is survived by: her son Dale Young (Mary); her granddaughters, Samantha (Jeremy) and Carly Rose (Tony); her great grandchildren, Alexander, Rihanna, Gabriella, Vanessa, Sakiaa and Theo; her sister Judy; her niece Sandy; her great-nephew Soren; and her cousin Barbara (Paul). She is also survived by her family and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Sonja's name to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the SPCA or Canadian Cancer Society.
