He was predeceased by: his parent Frederick David; his son Bruce David Ashley; and his grandchild Timothy Lee Newman. He is survived by: his parent Edna Rachel Ashley (Clendinin); his wife Carole Ashley (Waller); his daughter Elizabeth Ashley of Fredericksburg, Virginia; his grandchildren, Meredith Newman (Miguel Espinosa) of Málaga, Spain and Jack Newman of Richmond Virginia; his sister-in-law Lynda Strout (Kenneth) of Hermon, Maine; his nephew Jason Strout (Marguerite) of Newport; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Bethany, Nataleigh, Amanda and Cmdr.

In memory of Dave, contributions to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
