He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Hovey and Melinda Hovey (Beck); and his brother Norm Hovey. He is survived by: his spouse Stanita "Neetie" (Saunders) of Quispamsis; his daughters, Susan McDermott (Mark) of Saint John, Debbie Peacock of Pennfield and Heather Hovey (Thomas Storring) of Dartmouth, NS; his siblings, Ann-Marie Tingley (Richard), Judy Queen (George), Doreen McGill, Larry Hovey (Sharalynn) and Eric Hovey (Linda); his grandchildren, Jessica Chappel (Craig), Sarah McDermott (Mackenzie Walsh) and David Storring; his great grandchildren, Connor and Norah Chappel; and his sister-in-law Carol Hovey. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.
