He was predeceased by : his parents, Arthur O'Brien and Suzanne O'Brien (Caissie); his former life partner Helen Fluskey; his son Timothy O'Brien; and his siblings, Alice Love, Lina Stebbing and Eddie.

He is survived by : his wife Edith (Vautour); his children, Suzanne O'Brien of Rexton and Edward O'Brien of Moncton; his grandson E. J. O'Brien; his siblings, Rosie O'Brien (late Al) of Moncton, Anna Richard (late Rene) of Aldouane, Doris Vautour (late Valerie) of Cap Saint and Albert O'Brien (late Olive) of Calgary, AB; his goddaughters, Bernice Petitpas of Moncton and Gisele Petitpas of Richibouctou-Village; and his niece Diane Sullivan. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.
