He was predeceased by: his parents, George McGowan and Annie McGowan (Quinlan); his siblings, Mary Furze, Theresa Keenan, George McGowan and Murray McGowan; his former wife Mary McGowan (Breen); his daughter Marlene Pond; and his grandson Brendan McCarthy.

He is survived by: his girlfriend Therese Bourque; his sister Barbara Morrow; his children, Donald Jr. McGowan (Sheila), Paul McGowan (Kerri), Joan McGowan and Cathy Cormier; and his son-in-law Ron Pond. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
