He was predeceased by: his parents, Ronald Smith and Hilda Smith (Dean); his former wife Mavis; and his sisters, Marion and Doris Smith.

He is survived by: his wife Luetta Steeves-Smith; his sons, Jimmy (Nancy) of Lower Sackville, NS and Stephen (Paula) of Bible Hill, NS; and his grandchildren, Rachel, Julia, Patrick and Alexander.
