He was predeceased by: his parents, Heinrich Schmidt and Mia Schmidt; and his former wife Marjorie. He is survived by: his wife Nellie; his children, Dwight Schmidt (Katherine) of Quispamsis, Lisa Schmidt (Michael Farrer) of Woodstock, Yvonne Morehouse (Alton) of Fredericton and Wendy Pierce (Ambrose) of Hammonds Plains, NS; his stepdaughters, Dawn Walsh (Rick) of Quispamsis and Lisa Ervin (Billy) of Nerepis; his sister Mia Penk of Germany; and his grandchildren, Daphne Clark (Adam), Danielle Andrews (Dave), Jarrett Pierce (Haley), Kendra Crowell (Drew), Peyton Schmidt and Brady Schmidt. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
