He was predeceased by : his parents, Patrick McGrath and Anna McGrath (Hackett). He is survived by : his wife Mary (O'Regan); his children, Susan McGrath (Sean Terry), Colleen McGrath (Peter Fitzgerald) and Michael McGrath (Suzanne Robichaud); his siblings, Joan Boucher (Laurie), Patsy Skidd (Billy), Betty Smith, Lourdes McGrath, Paul McGrath (Suzanne), Ronnie McGrath (Willena), Robert McGrath (Shelley) and Terry McGrath (Brenda); and his grandchildren, Chelsea, Ryan, Sarah, Erin, Megan, Kaitlyn, Mackenzie and Cody. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Donations made to The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit) would be appreciated by his family.
