He was predeceased by: his wife Marjorie; his parents, Tom Oates and Mollie Oates; and his siblings, Sybil, Tom, Cec, Ted, Art, Bill and Derek.
He is survived by: his children, Kirk (Maxine), Brenda (Mike) and Sandy (Mary); his sisters, Joyce and Vicki; and his sisters-in-law, Greta, Clara, Cathy and Doris.
Visitation was held on Friday, March 27th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, on Saturday, March 28th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Broughton's Funeral Home (17 Station Rd, Brigus, NL A0A 1K0). A funeral service was held on Sunday, March 29th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Brigus United Church (6 Church Hill, Brigus, NL A0A1K0).
In keeping with his wishes, flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in his memory to the Newfoundland Pony Society.
