With sadness, we share the passing of Sheila Synard (Burin, Newfoundland). Sheila passed away on September 8, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her husband Alphonsus Synard; her former husband Michael Synard; her daughter Regina Barry; her grandchildren, Michelle, Shelley Anne, Ryan and Roxanne; her parents, Mary Drake and Lawrence Drake; and her siblings, Regina Drake, Bridget Drake, Bernice Conway, Gus, Phonse, Joe and Adrian Drake.
She is survived by: her children, Laura Denty (Brad), Michael Synard (Rita), Bernice Thornhill, Valerie Bourne (Ken), Alice Lundrigan (Andy) and Anita Lambe (Wayne); her son-in-law Thomas Barry; her grandchildren, Jason, Alan, Elizabeth, Michael, Tony, Pamela, Christina, Alison, Kathyn, Megan, Aubree, Gina, Steven, Mark, Debbie and Stephanie; her great grandchildren, Dagon, Nevaya, Taylor, Philip, Abby, Jacob, Ella, Chloe, Charlie, Nikolas, Gracie, Georgia and Gia; her stepchildren, Jim Synard, John Synard, Jerome Synard, Sheila Whittle and Lucy Pardy; and her siblings, Theresa Dimmer, Angela Chynn (Eric), Mary Rose Young (Bruce) and Larry Drake. She is also survived by spouses, partners, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 9th 2026 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Friday, September 11th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A vigil service was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 7:30 PM at the Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. A prayer was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 12:00 PM and at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Cemetery.
In Sheila's memory, donations may be made to the family, who will make a donation to the Burin Peninsula Health Care Foundation to help with the purchase of a cuddle bed for their palliative care unit, or flowers are gratefully accepted.
