David Gerard LaSaga Obituary

David Gerard LaSaga December 13, 1951 – August 19, 2025. It is with great sadness that the family of David Gerard LaSaga, aged 73, announce his peaceful passing on August 19th, 2025, at the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He passed away surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on December 13, 1951, in Corner Brook, Dave remained deeply connected to his Newfoundland roots throughout his life. He shared 54 wonderful years of marriage with his best friend and the love of his life, Gloria, with whom he built a life filled with unwavering love, deep friendship, and countless cherished memories.

He leaves to mourn with loving memories his beloved wife, Gloria; daughters, Tracey, Stacey (Kyle); cherished grandchildren, Evan, and Madison; brothers, Kevin, and Clem; and sisters, Gerri, Margaret, Patsy, Anastasia, Joan, Catherine, Sheila, Debbie, and Susan.

Also left with fond memories are his sister-in-law, Bernice King (Brian), and brother-in-law, John Whiteway, along with a wide circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Dave was a man whose heart belonged to his family. He was endlessly proud of his daughters and found his greatest joy in being "Pop" to his grandchildren. They were the center of his world. Whether it was a hockey game, school event, or a simple visit, Dave never missed a moment in their lives. His face lit up when they walked into the room, and the love he gave them will live on in their hearts forever.

Dave had a lifelong passion for sports—both playing and watching. He spent countless hours on the golf course under the Florida sun and was a proud, devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In his community, he made a lasting impact as the Umpire-in-Chief with the Western Newfoundland Softball organization, dedicating many years to the game.

Dave also had a deep love for travel, especially when shared with Gloria. Whether heading to sunny destinations or visiting cherished family, he was always happiest when they were exploring the world together.

What truly set Dave apart was his quick wit and playful sense of humor. Time spent with him was never dull—he had a rare gift for lighting up a room and turning ordinary moments into treasured memories. If you were lucky enough to share his company, you always left with a smile on your face.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, Clement, and Mary LaSaga; brothers, Leo, and Jerome; grandparents, John, and Annie Canning; mother-in-law, Muriel Whiteway; father-in-law, James Whiteway; brothers-in-law, Jim Whiteway and Charles Whiteway; and sister-in-law, Ellie Stumpf.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Whitten (Wendy), Dr. Stefanelli, Tammy Benoite, Rev. Francis Elgar, and the incredible team at the Palliative Care Centre. Their compassion and dedication made an immense difference during a challenging time, and their kindness will never be forgotten. They are truly angels.

In keeping with Dave's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dave's memory can be made to Defeat Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) Canada and please take a moment to do an act of kindness whenever you can—just as Dave would have done.

Dave will be remembered for his love of life, his devotion to his family, and the laughter he brought into every room. His absence will be deeply felt, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Those we love never leave us. They live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared, and the love they brought into our lives.
