He was predeceased by: his parents, Hayward Russell and Jessie Russell; his brothers, Hayward Russell, Harold Russell and Harvey Russell; and his daughter Marlene Russell.

He is survived by: his wife Stella; his children, Guy Russell (Velma), Calvin Russell and Nina Penney (Brad); his grandchildren, Loren (Bobbi), Nikita, Breanna (Courtney), Summer, Shakira and Reggie; his great grandchildren, Jorja, Thomas, Nikolas, Ivy, Isabella and Mckenna; and his siblings, Herbert Russell (Elsie), Patricia Russell, Linda Russell, Velma Larkham, Neta Russell and Joy Grzinia.
