He was predeceased by: his parents, James Mercer and Mary Mercer (May); his parents-in-law, Kathleen and George Vey; his sisters, Elizabeth Collier (Betty), Marion Cutler, Shirley Mercer and Goldie Mercer; and his siblings-in-law, Gerry Hiltz, Lawrence Hoffman, Tom Cutler, Bill Mason, Everest Collier, John Vey, Bob Vey, Joanne Vey, Marie Mercer, Jeannie Vey, Ursula Vey and Linda Vey.
He is survived by: his wife Donna; his children, Dawn and Darrell (Joanne); his stepdaughter Darlene Dodd (Tom); his grandchildren, Payton, Luke (Avery) and Alex; his siblings, Bob Mercer (Gertie), Charlie Mercer (Roxanne), Ben Mercer, Mary Ryan (Cecil), Patricia Hoffman, Frances Mason, Elaine Mercer (Bob), Suzanne Hiltz, Kathleen Hann (Keith), Theresa McCarthy (Jim) and Pam Parsons (Ron); and his siblings-in-law, George Vey, Jim Vey (Roz), Bert Vey (Rose), Paul Vey, Mary Hutchings (Cyril), Ida Roberts (Harold), Margie Stapleton (Harry), Alice Puddister (Tom), Monica Lawlor (Wayne) and Kimberly Vey. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 20th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, May 21st 2026 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church (246 Main St, Saint George's, NL A0N1Z0). A burial was held on Thursday, May 21st 2026 from 11:00 AM to 11:15 AM at the Church Cemetery Courthouse Road St. George's.
