He was predeceased by: his parents, Uriah Ward and Flora Crewe; and his sister Leah Porter (James). He is survived by: his wife Lelia Crewe; his children, Michelle Mathieu (Wayne) and James Crewe (Dionne); his brother Freeman Crewe (Bernice); and his nieces and nephews, Sharon (Wayne) of Stephenville Crossing, Krista (Dave) of Burgeo, Brian (Maxine) of Burgeo and Brent (Laurie) of Stephenville Crossing. He is also survived by his extended family and a wide circle of friends.

In recognition of his enduring dedication and meaningful contributions to his community and country, he was honoured with the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002), the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), and the King Charles III Coronation Medal (2025) for Service to Canada—distinctions that reflected not only his years of service in uniform, but his lifelong commitment to supporting veterans and strengthening the community and nation he so proudly served.
