It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Robert Mercer (Gander, Newfoundland), who passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 67, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Mercer (Ed) and Mary Ellen Mercer (Nell). He is survived by: his grandchildren, Sadie, Nolan and Lydia; his children, Ryan (Kaitlin) and Alicia (Myles); his girlfriend Mona; his sister Sandy; and the mother of his children Betty. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to Nature Newfoundland and Labrador or KidSport Newfoundland and Labrador.

“I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Jim. I offer my sincere condolences to all of Jim's immediate and extended family. He was a great person and a lifelong friend. As a young athlete playing for Grand Falls back in the late sixties and early seventies, I quickly became aware of and met Jimmy Mercer. He was a superb athlete, especially in hockey and baseball. He was their captain and leader. I played against and with Jim in both sports and he was an awesome teammate and a true competitor”
