He was predeceased by: his son Kevin; his parents, Helena Butler and John Butler; and his siblings, Marcella Connolly (Fred), Alice Ezechiel (Fred), Marguerite Birkel (Charlie), James Butler and Gerald Butler (Bride).

He is survived by: his wife Judy (Carlson); his son David (Joanne); his grandchildren, Mekaela (Julia), Bobbi Glenn (Aaron), Maggie (Michael), Mary Ann, Molly, Jack and Adam; his great grandchild Carlson; and his close friend Bo. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory.
