It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joseph Leonard (Placentia, Newfoundland), who passed away on February 3, 2026, at the age of 74, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Ellen Leonard (Nellie); his parents, William Leonard and Anastasia Leonard; his siblings, Isabel, Theresa and Eugene; his son James Flynn Jr. (Jimmy); his sons-in-law, Robbie Collins and Laurie Blackwood Pike; his grandson Matthew Collins; his children, Tony (Denise), Kathleen, Mary, Paddy, Jenny (Duane), Helen (Ray) and Gerald (Kim); his grandchildren, Laurie Shannon, Christopher, Genny, Joseph, Jessie, Jimmy, Riley, Mackenzie, John and Cole; his great grandchildren, Andrew, Lydia, Noel and Adeline; his siblings, Leo (Joyce), Madonna (Jerome), Anita (Chris) and Mary (Richard); his brothers-in-law, Mike and Derm; his siblings' children, Stephanie and Steven; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Jacob, Hannah, Sophie, Ava and Will; and his caregiver Angie. He was also cherished by nephews, and cousins.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 4th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Thursday, February 5th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service was held on Friday, February 6th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Maher's Funeral Home (11 Veteran's Way, Placentia, NL A0B2Y0).
