He was predeceased by : his parents, Arthur Smith and Susanna Smith; and his brothers, Harvey, Gordon and Arnold Smith.

He is survived by : his wife Eileen (O'Brien); his sons, David (Elizabeth) and Geoff; his grandchildren, Andrew and Isabelle; his sister Nina Todd; his sister-in-law Sheila Ivany; his niece Kim Todd (Dave Finn); and his nephew Steve Todd (Darlene). He is also survived by many other nieces nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to St.Mary the Virgin Church, Craigmillar Avenue.
