He was predeceased by: his grandson Nathan Gibbons; his parents, Mike Byrne and Emily Byrne; and his siblings, Ken, Leo, Jack and Eileen Codner.

He is survived by: his family Douglas John Byrne; his wife Helen; his children, Glenn (Karen), Leanne Gibbons (Eugene), Melissa (Greg) and Jonathan (Tiffany); his grandchildren, Glenn-Douglas (Jillian), Lillian, Emily, Trevor and Tristan; his siblings, Jerry (Emily), Michael (Gen), Ron (Anne), David, Joseph, Tish (Laura) and Maureen Glynn (Pat); his siblings-in-law, Bridget Byrne and Bob Codner; and his brothers, Fred (Susan Oates) and Ted (Audrey Janes). He is also survived by nieces. nephews, cousins, and friends.
