It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Herbert D. Manthorne (St John's, Newfoundland), who passed away on December 2, 2020, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lena and Alfred; his brother Gerald; and his siblings-in-law, Bill Thistle, Elizabeth Thistle and Judy Trahey (Thistle).

He is survived by: his wife Marilyn; his daughters, Janice and Jillian; his sons-in-law, Peter Lane and Moe Tabesh; his grandchildren, Stella, Rylan and Evelyn Tabesh; his stepgranddaughters, Jessica and Sara Lane; and his siblings, Sheila (Dennis), Brent (Celesta), Linda, Warren (Andrea) and Julia. He is also survived by nieces and nephews along with a multitude of friends.

This was made exceptionally more challenging and isolating in the face of current pandemic restrictions.

“Very sad to hear this, just this evening. My sincere condolences to you all. I have many fond memories of Reid St., and more than you might imagine involve this wonderful man -- always Mr Manthorne in my head, even long after I'd grown up. The fish tank that felt swimming pool size, that was then turned incubator for our hamsters' babies, tools clattering away in the back of the station-wagon on the way to school as you two shouted, "Dad, stop!" at his (safe) silly swerving... So sad. --John J.”
