He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Parsons and Jenny Parsons (Forward); his parents-in-law, William, Elizabeth Kelloway, Marion Kelloway, Lilian, Hal O'Connell, Ches Slade, Melvin Rose and Joan Kelloway; and his niece Ceanne Butt.

He is survived by: his wife Edith (Ede); his children, Gail Curran (Wilf), Adele Woodfine (Tom), Brad Parsons (Pam) and Renee Sheppard (Craig); his grandchildren, Deanne, Chris Murray, Shawn, Ryan Wight, Deidre Grouchy, Desiree Parsons, Samantha and Tyler Sheppard; his great grandchildren, Hudson, Taylor Wight, Derek Grouchy and Savannah Wight; his siblings, Harold (Marie), Richard (Daphne) and Louise Dillon (Gus); his siblings-in-law, William Kelloway, Eliza Slade, Effie Rose and Jean Smith (Walter); and his pet Charlie.

Donations in Sam's memory can be made to the Kidney Foundation, the Riverside United Church in Salmon Cove or a charity of one's choice.
