He was predeceased by : his parents, John James and Gladys (Queen); and his sister Sharon. He is survived by : his daughters, Kayla MacDonald (Eddie) and Cindy Young; his siblings, Rosemary O'Keefe (Marcus), Margaret Downing (Paul), Jim and Rick Young (Joanne); his granddaughters, Allie and Lilly; his niece Rhiannon Morningstar (Uriel); his nephews, Michael O'Keefe (Leah), John Mercer, Shane Young (Ashley Burge) and Thomas Robinson (Sarah Norman); and his close friend Gail Hayes.

Donations in John's memory may be made to the Lung Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.
