He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Whelan and Mary Whelan; and his brother Paul Whelan. He is survived by: his wife Yvonne; his children, Gerard (Jeanelle), Joel (Cassie) and Anna (Michael); his granddaughter Kaiya; his siblings, Joanne (Darry), Ed, Mary (Freddie), Caroline, Peggy (Roger) and Maria (Darryl); his sisters-in-law, Linda Whelan, Joan Corrigan and Brenda Corrigan; and his nieces and nephews, Ashley, Bob, Steve, Nicole, Mandy, Kaitey, Ronnie, Maggie, Connor, Cody, Jordan, Kayla, Michael and Daniel.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 at 1:30 PM at the Cauls Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, please say a prayer for his beloved hockey team the Detroit Red Wings this season, they'll certainly need it.
