He was predeceased by : his parents, John Smith and Bertha Smith (Carter); his wife Ruth; and his siblings, David, William, Jack and Gwynne.

He is survived by : his children, Linda Thompson of Grand Bay and Larry (Sherry) of Amherst, NS; his grandsons, David Thompson (Jennifer) and Ernie Thompson (Lindsay); his great grandchildren, Taylor, Logan, Myles and Madalyn; and his godson Cooper MacEwen. He is also survived by several nieces and, nephews.

Prior to COVID, he enjoyed spending Thursday mornings at the Vets Coffee Break at the Amherst, Armories.
