She was predeceased by: her parents, Ralph Akey and Sarah Akey; her husband Charles "Charlie" McWhirter; her son Timothy Dowe; and her siblings, Yvonne Nye, Ervin Akey, Alvin Akey and Alan Akey.
She is survived by: her children, Phyllis Baker (Lee) of Edmonton, AB, Betty Melanson (Michael) of Riverview, NB, Randy Akey (Bethina) of Surrey, BC, Peter MacPherson (Francoise) of Vancouver, BC, Robert Dowe (Grace) of Amherst, NS and Gordie Dowe (Nicole) of Amherst, NS.; her grandson Kenny Dowe; her siblings, Linda Burbine, Carol Foster, Audrey Bird and William Akey (Ann); and her friends, Judy Smith, Anne DeMont, Lynn Chapell, Amanda Wells and Sheila Upshaw. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Campbell's Funeral Home (98 Church St, Amherst, NS B4H3B4).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Daphine's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
