He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph Edward Sr. and Mary Louise Scanlan (Poirier) of Walkerville; and his siblings, Joseph Junior and Phyllis. He is survived by : his family Delima; his wife Delima Scanlan (Boudreau); his children, Karen Burke (Rodney) of Whiteside, Sharon Burke (Peter) of Whiteside, Shelly Smeenk (Henry) of Kingsville, Darrell Scanlan (Sandra) of Whiteside and Dale Scanlan (Kim) of Walkerville; his grandchildren, Natalie, Ashley, Jillian (Simon), Kelsee, Ryan, Krystal (Justin), Kalem (Kristen), Caitlin, Catisha, Christopher (Tracy), Alicia (Ronald), Ian (Susanne), Allana, Makayla (Nick) and Maddy (Nick); his great grandchildren, Tori, Chase, Gabriel, Nolan, John-William, Emma, Alex, Penney, Jack, Reese, Sawyer, Lincoln, Rory, Bella and Luca; his sister Sheila Scanlan; and his siblings-in-law, Carmel Scanlan (Whiteside) and Hughie MacDonnell.
