He was predeceased by : his parent Sydney Cress; and his half-siblings, Maurice Rice, Theodore Rice and Frances Fetter. He is survived by : his half-brother John Cress; his nieces and nephews, Wanda Trimper, Cheryl Amouri, Glen Rice, Kevin Fetter and Randy Fetter; his uncles, Lionel Cress and Don Cress; and his close friends, Eric Cox and Kathryn Brown.

In lieu of flowers donations in Melvin's memory may be sent to the Bear River and Area Health Clinic.
