He was predeceased by: his parents, Janie Shaffer (Steeves) and Stanley Shaffer; his son Brian Shaffer; and his siblings, Emery Shaffer, Clinton Shaffer, Phyllis Shaffer and Jean Black.

He is survived by: his wife Freda Alice Shaffer; and his children, Karen, Heather and Edward.
