Douglas' Courtney Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas "Grant" Courtney, who peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by his family on February 11th, 2024.

Grant was a beloved husband to Pam and a devoted father to his children Michelle (Lyle), Mitchell (Kiersten), and Melissa. He was also a cherished son to Douglas and Florence Courtney, and a dear brother to Brett (Cindy), Carl (Nancy), and Tom (Joanne). Additionally, he was beloved by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

For 42 years, Grant dedicated his life to his work as a bulk tank milk truck driver for Farmers Dairy, now known as Agropur. His dedication, and the people he encountered along the way made it a pleasure for him to do the job he so deeply loved.

Outside of work, Grant had a passion for the outdoors. He found solace and joy in working in the woods, connecting with nature, and taking trips on his beloved motorcycle with his brother Carl and their many "biker" friends. He had a deep love for animals, especially his dog Mia, and cat Vern, and often you would not find one without the other. Above all else, there was nothing that he cherished more than the time spent with his family. Camping, swimming, kayaking, and biking were a few of the many enjoyments they shared together. Grant's dry sense of humour and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone made him a cherished companion and friend.

Grant was predeceased by his father, Douglas Courtney, his sister, Diana, and his father-in-law, William Cranton.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18th, 2024, in the afternoon from 2 pm to 4 pm at Kaulbach Family Funeral Home in Bridgetown, NS. The funeral service will take place on Monday, February 19th, 2024, at 2 pm at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their gratitude to VON and palliative care for their compassion and assistance during this difficult time. They also want to extend their thanks to the many family and friends who have shown them love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

Grant will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness, humour, and love.
