He was predeceased by: his parents, Wesley Ernst and Clara Edna Ernst (Aulenback); his siblings, Jessie Wentzell, Alma Cottenden, Reanie Fraser, Marion Wilneff, Norma Sawler and Franklyn Ernst; and his former wife Ella Boehner (Leopold).
He is survived by: his siblings, Clarence Ernst (June) of Caledonia, ON, Beatrice Veinotte of Middle Cornwall, Burleigh Ernst of Blockhouse and Welton Ernst of Middle Cornwall; his children, Esther Ernst-Pike (Rodger) of Farmville, Victor Ernst of Toronto, Claudine Ernst Kuenzle (Kuno) of Blockhouse and Vance Ernst of Ottawa; and his grandchildren, Alyssa Gerhardt (Ryan MacArthur), Brittany Gerhardt and Matthew Pike (Joyce Sseguya-Lwanga). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
