He was predeceased by: his parents, Violet Dort and Edward Dort Sr.; and his siblings, Johnny Dort, Viola Greencorn and Alma Dort.
He is survived by: his wife Bertha (Richardson); his daughters, Denise Werner (Dan), Christina Dort and Stephanie Simpson (Andrew); his grandchildren, Kira, Ian Simpson, Noah Werner (Madi), Zach Werner and Abby Werner; his siblings, Hattie Feltmate (Huck) and Clarence Dort (Lila); and his siblings-in-law, Linda Richardson (Dave), Everette Richardson (Cheryl), Kenny Richardson (Carolyn) and John Richardson (Carol). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the St. Paul's United Church (1216 Union St, Canso, NS B0H1H0). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 3:15 PM to 3:45 PM at the Fourth Hill Cemetery. A reception was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 3:50 PM at the Canso/Hazel Fire Hall (1134 Union St, Canso, NS B0H1H0).
