He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Elva Hilchey (Connor) and Lewis Hilchey; his wife Joan Hilchey (Walsh); his daughters, Elizabeth Soucy (Gaston) of Eastern Passage, Brenda Mason (Jonathan) of Midland, Michigan and Kelly Hilchey-Wilson (Mike) of Windsor; his siblings, Joy Gerrard of Spry Harbour, Roderick of Spry Bay and Randall (Cathy) of Windsor; his sister-in-law Mary of Halifax; his grandchildren, Krystal Soucy, Lucas, Eric Mason, Hayley and Joshua Hilchey; his brother Leonard; and his siblings-in-law, Sheila and Morris. He was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cancer Society or Palliative Care Unit of the Victoria General Hospital.
