He was predeceased by: his parents, Edith Short and Garland Short; his wife Sheila (McKenzie); his parents-in-law, Lyle and Olive McKenzie; his granddaughter Kimberly; his great grandchild Elijah; and his sister Winnie Lively.
He is survived by: his children, Donald (Joan), Eric (Mary Lou), Nancy Jesso (Earl) and Louise Short Ayer (Nathan); his grandchildren, Cameron, Jessica, Erica, Richard, Joey, William, Erin, Brittany, Ian, Helena, Sam and Theo; and his siblings, Pearl Kaulbach and Ed Short. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's memory can be made to the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation.
