He was predeceased by: his father J. Russell MacDonald; and his parents-in-law, Trudy Farrell (Marshall) and William Farrell. He is survived by: his wife Glenda MacDonald (Farrell) of Dartmouth; his sons, Daniel MacDonald (Kayla) of Dartmouth and Michael MacDonald (Charlie Parent) of Fort St. John BC; his grandson Oliver MacDonald; his mother Betty MacDonald (MacDougall); his siblings, Lousie Nelson (Ray), Amy MacDonald (Halifax) and Bill MacDonald (Rossy); his brothers-in-law, Doug Farrell (Cheryl) of Long Beach, NB, Bob Farrell of Dartmouth and Bill Farrell of Dartmouth; Susan Harnish (John).

Visitation was held on Thursday, October 22nd 2026 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 at 2:00 PM. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Sanctuary Arts Centre (100 Ochterloney St, Dartmouth, NS B2Y1C5).

Donations in memory of Jim may be made to Autism Nova Scotia.
