He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Hopkinson and Amelia Hopkinson; and his brothers, Harry and Alex Hopkinson. He is survived by: his wife Victoria Hopkinson; his children, Edward Hopkinson (Peshani) and Susan Hopkinson; his stepsons, Patrick Devereaux (Teddi), Tracey Devereaux (Tracey) and MJ Devereaux (Jovita); his former wife Joan MacMillan; his grandchildren, Cailey, Andrew Hopkinson, Layla, Max Muelenbelt, Taylor Chiasson, Aislyn, Allison, Aidan, Emma, Fiona, Cameron, Victoria, Maddox and Kirsten Devereaux; and his great grandchildren, Joshua MacNeil, Scott Waterman and Danni Chiasson.
In lieu of flowers, John requested that donations be made in his memory to the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation or the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) Nova Scotia.
